Parents Code of Behaviour

• As parents, coaches and officials we hold an enormous influence over the children and youth of the club.  We are expected to set an exemplary standard of behaviour and not bring the game into disrepute (ie. foul language - towards players, match officials and opposing team is not acceptable.
  
  
• Encourage  children to participate.  However, if a child is not willing, do not force him or her.
  
  
• Focus upon the child's efforts and performance which will assist the child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
  
  
• Teach Children that an honest effort is as important as a victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. Emphasise the virtue of good sportsmanship.
  
  
• Encourage children to always participate according to the rules.
  
  
• Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake or losing a game.  Do not criticise players in front of other parents, spectators or players, particularly your own child.
  
  
• Remember, children are involved in organized sports for everybody's enjoyment.
  
  
• Remember, that children learn best from example.
  
  
• If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through appropriate channels rather than questioning the officials judgement and honesty in public. Remember, officials give their time and effort for your child's involvement - it is important to realise that 12-16 year old referees are children too.
  
  
• Support all efforts to remove verbal, physical and racial abuse from sporting activities.
  
  
• Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give of their time and resources to provide recreational activities for the children and deserve your support.
  
  
• Avoid use of derogatory language based on gender.
